Op zaterdag 10 april 1943 stortte de Mosquito NF II, serienummer DZ743 van de 410th Royal Canadian Air Force neer in IJlst. Tijdens de beschieting van een trein raakte het jachtvliegtuig een boomtop en daarna kwam het brandend naar beneden. Het toestel was afkomstig van de Engelse basis Coleby Grange. De beide bemanningsleden kwamen om het leven.

Of the two Ranger sorties arranged, only one crossed the coast, the other returned to base shortly after take-off owing to mechanical trouble. Flying Officer J.E. Leach (J.15578) and Flying Officer R.M. Bull (J.8604) were airborne at 8.55 hours and were not heard of again.

There has been no further word concerning Flying Officer "Jack" Leach and his navigator, Flying Officer "Monty" Bull and it is feared that they must be regarded as missing. Both were conscientious and enthusiastic and contributed greatly to squadron life.
